10k...Yay Me!

Today I did awesome!! I ran a 10k! This was my first ever 10k! I am pretty new to running. I have only been running for a year now. Judging by my name, Run Crazy Girl Run, you might think I am one of those super awesome runners that goes on 20 mile runs every weekend (wouldn't that be awesome). I am not! 10k was a huge deal for me but it is only the beginning as I have my first half marathon in April. The reason why I am Run Crazy Girl Run is because I have a problem of breaking out in song and dance while running. I don't mean like small dance moves or head bobs, I mean full on dance routines. I use to be a cheerleader so I have years worth of dances just waiting to performed at all random times.

Anyway back to my 10k! Yay 10k! I completed it today as part of my Mom's Run This Town Virtual Race. I love virtual races! The next one that I have scheduled is put on by Run With Jess check it out here!!

Stay tune for next week when I attempt to run 7 miles...will I survive or will I give up and refuse to move after 5 miles?

Do you have any milestones that you want to brag about? Do you know of any fun virtual races?

Week 3 Recap and other fun stuff!

Week three went a little different than I hoped it would. I had a very busy week with my husband aging another year and with last minute prep for his big day. I set out days that I was going to run and how many miles I would do. The week started out great!! Ran 2 easy miles at the gym Tuesday then did 16 miles on the bike! Next running day was going to be Thursday but my husband had tons of work and with no one to watch the kids, I did strength training at home. The wonderful weather decided to turn on me and everything was a sheet of ice due to freeze rain. There goes my lunch time run on Friday :( also my MRRT 10k got rescheduled to February 2 as a result as well. I still got my workout's in during the week but not all the miles I intended to run. But this is a new week and I will get back on track!!!

My planks this week have been awesome!! I have been consistently over 3 minutes! I have also planked at least once a day for the last 27 days! Yep every day of 2013! If you would like more info on planks click here.

Run Like a Grl is hosting an awesome challenge that will give us all Abs By April. This is the start of week 2. The first week was daily planks and this week there are some fun exercises that we will do 3-4 times this week. I am so excited about the challenge! I WANT ABS BY APRIL! If you want to join me and some other awesome people in obtaining our abs click here!

What's the weather like where you are located? Has it messed up your workouts at all?

Week 2 Recap

This week I had three training runs. I got all the distance completed that I was suppose to but with some walking. I have some kind of lame strain or pulled muscle in my leg that comes and go. I am trying to fix it by taking a day or two off and focusing on stretching.

Tuesday - I did 5 miles on the treadmill. Got to the gym, found a treadmill open and started off awesome. Started doing some speed work, leg started hurting and burned out early. Finished up doing some slow hill work.

Friday - This is normally my "run with a buddy day". My buddy was out of town so I did my training run by myself on the greenbelt. It was COLD out, so cold that my hair froze with actual ice on it! It blew my mind! I didn't know hair could freeze like that.

Saturday - Went to the gym, ready to run and get in a good long run. Well all the treadmills were full. Decided to do 20 minutes on the bike to pass the time. Decided to do interval training and really push my legs. After 20 minutes, I went and checked the treadmills. All full!! Back to the bike! By the time I got to the treadmill my legs were tired but I tried to run. The long run didn't happen but a three mile one did. My legs were tired and the pulled muscle was bugging me almost all day. I got out there and that is what is important I guess.

Next week I will start week 3 of training! I will celebrate my husband's 31st birthday hopefully with a night on the town and I have a 10k with my MRTT group.

What fun things do you have planned this week?

Week one recap

Week one of training went great!!! I am assuming the first week is meant to be easy so I am not getting too cocky. I started out this last week testing out the treadmills at the gym by my house.

On Friday, I met up with my friend for a 3 mile run during my lunch break at work. I am glad that she wanted to go as I would probably not have gone if she didn't drag me. It had been so snowy the day before that schools were cancelled and it was cold. We got out there and completed the 3 miles we had planned and it wasn't so bad so next time I know just to suck it up.

On Saturday, I had a meeting with my MRTT group. Planned some awesome races including the Shamrock Shuffle 10k for my birthday (who is going to join me?). They are a great group of women and I was able to recruit another person into training for Robie with me. After the meeting we did 4 miles in a subdivision since we didn't want to get ran over by cars sliding on ice and the side walks looked gross with lots of ice!

This weekend was the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend. I am so jealous of all the people that got to run in that magical place! It makes me even more motivated to do the Tinker Bell Half in a year. Congrats to all the runners who participated in any race this weekend!!

Did you run a race this weekend? What made it magical?

Work it out

I have discovered something exciting! It is a machine that allows me to run inside away from the snow. Some of you may have used this magical device before but this week was my first time running on it. It is a treadmill aka a dreadmill to most of you runners.

I started running a year ago and have enjoyed running outside but with snow EVERYWHERE and the ice under the snow being super slippery I haven't ran much. I got a 21 day pass to Anytime Fitness and decided to give running inside a try. It was pretty awesome! I still prefer outside but this gives me the ability to run anytime I want. Plus it was kind of fun watching tv while running. I get bored quickly, of the same routes around my house, of my playlists, and I have gotten picky about weather and started making excuses for not running. My favorite lately is that it is too cold or that it is dark outside. I hate running in the dark! Well with the magical technology of the treadmill I can watch tv instead of listen to my boring music, I can run in a well lit area that is a comfortable temperature. Yep I will be happy running on it for the next 21 days then I will welcome the open roads again. Hopefully the snow is long gone by then!! If not I might actual have to get a gym membership.

Week one of half marathon training for Robie is going GREAT!!! I have a 3 mile run scheduled tomorrow and a 4 miler on Saturday. Only 14 more weeks to go and I am ready for them!

Which gym do you prefer? Do you ever like to watch tv while you run?

Bring it On!

I have decided that I am going to run the 2013 Race to Robie Creek. I am so excited about this challenge! I have wanted to do this race for many years. On the day of the 2012 race I was very envious of all the runners but knew that I wasn't ready for such a big race. I will be ready for the race this year! The Race to Robie Creek is said to be the toughest half marathon in the Northwest. The reason why it is so tough is because the first 8 miles are uphill and the rest are straight down. The going down is suppose to be worse because your legs are jello from the going up. A friend ran it last year after only completing one 6 mile run. I saw her the day after the race and she could barely walk. I do not want that to happen to me so I will be training my butt off. The theme is always something fun and there is a huge party after. I can't wait to run it and review the race for you all on here! I start my 14 week training program tomorrow. I will be updating my progress on here and hopefully getting encouragement from you along the way. I welcome any training tips you have!

What fun or challenging races are you planning to do this year?

Christmas and New Year's

On Christmas I was very gracefully walking down the stairs. I decided (my choice) that I wanted to get my toe caught on my pant leg. Not sure how I managed to do that but I am pretty talented. I fell down three stairs and landed on my toe wrong. By the end of the day it was super swollen, I could barely walk. Finally a week later, I can walk normal but it still hurts to wear shoes. This crazy girl hasn't had much chance to run in the last week due to barely being able to walk. My toe still looks many shades of bruise. Besides showing off how graceful I am, I had a wonderful Christmas spent in one of my most favorite places, Montana. I have been bugging my sister to start running for a long time. She finally has caught the running bug and is now running five days a week. It was a great Christmas present to hear that! I am so proud of her! I can't wait to run our first half marathon together.

Happy New Year!!

This year I am going to train for the 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon (a year away). I plan to do my first 10k at the Shamrock Shuffle which happens to fall on my birthday. Does anyone want to run it with me? It will be tons of fun dressing up in green and enjoying a green beer after the run. I also plan to work on hill work and interval training this year and have fun doing it. I think 2013 is going to be a great year!!

I need some suggestions on some good workout music. I am getting tired of my current playlist. Please suggest some new tunes for me! Thanks!!!
